The episode opens with the guests getting ready to leave the island. They talk about J.D. being the killer. Shea is looking for Madison. She looks everywhere and cannot find her. Trish is standing on the stairs looking at the photo of Henry and her as kids. She shows it to Henry and they hug. Henry is staying on the island to take care of Thomas’ funeral plans.

J.D. is in jail. Shane is in a cell and asks Charlie if he can be let out after he lets out J.D. to talk to him. Charlie is asking him why he killed the people. J.D. says he didn’t do anything and Charlie should go and talk to Cole but he might not be to happy to see him.

Jimmy and Abby say good-bye to each other and Shea appears and tells Trish that Madison is missing and she can’t find her. Henry asks Sully, Beth, Danny, Chloe, and Cal to stay and help look for her. They agree. Katherine suggests that Richard took Madison without telling anyone.

Shane and J.D. are in separate cells talking. Shane grabs J.D.s neck and chokes him. A deputy stops them. The lights go out and the deputy is shot killing him. The lights come back on and J.D. grabs the keys to the cells. He frees himself but leaves Shane in his cell. J.D. runs away, leaving Shane alone with the corpse and threatening him right before the beginning credits roll.

The group is looking for Madison at the Inn. Beth, Sully and Danny find Malcolm’s stuff still in his room and think nothing of it. Maggie lets Shea and Trish into Richards room and find it unused. Chloe, Cal, Shea, and Trish decide to look in the basement. Katherine, Abby and Henry decide to search the woods

Cut to the Sheriff. He goes into the woods and hears a metal sound. It’s Gigi’s collar making the sound. He walks towards Gigi and goes through a wire, triggering a pole with a knife on the end of it to hit Charlie. He screams.

Sully, Danny, and Beth search in the kitchen and find nothing. Sully scares Beth when she doesn’t know he’s behind her. In the basement, the group thinks Madison would never go down there. They see a hand print on the furnace door (Malcolm’s from grabbing it before he died). Cal gets a shovel and finds a skull in the furnace. He says it’s not Madison’s because it’s not the skull of a child. Abby, Henry, and Katherine are looking outside for Madison. Henry thanks Abby for giving Trish the picture. Henry later finds a rope. He follows it and sees Richards dead body tied to a tree, with the harpoon still in his chest. Abby gets a call from Madison, saying if anyone tries to leave the island, she’ll die. Later, Abby can no longer get a signal. They try the Inn’s phones and can’t get a signal either. The group discusses the events and who is dead. Sully suggests it is just Wellington business and the rest should leave but Henry says Uncle Marty died as well. Sully plans to leave and gets up to, but Trish slaps him after he asks “Why is her (Madison’s) life more important then any of ours?”.

The Sheriff pulls the knife out of his leg. A person appears next to him.

Chloe is making a list of who is missing or dead. They mention Ben, Lucy, and the reverend. Trish and Cal say to stop and Trish leaves. The lights then go out in the hotel. Maggie leads Sully, Henry, Cal, and Danny to a stash of guns. Cal pleads to not use them as more people are killed by their own people more then the one the are trying to kill. Sully doesn’t give him one. They whole group gets flashlights. They hear a noise and hold their guns to the door. Someone enters the Inn. It’s Jimmy and he asks why they have guns and why Abby wasn’t on the boat when it left a half hour ago.

Sully and Chloe want to leave on Jimmy’s boat. Danny and Henry find the back up generator and turn it one, powering the Inn again. They find Shea, Trish, and Katherine alone. They say they don’t know where the others went. Danny stays with them and Henry tells him to shoot anyone he doesn’t recognize. Abby and Jimmy are at the station and find Shane. Jimmy slips on the dead deputy’s blood. Shane says he’ll tell them where Abby’s dad is if they let him out.

Cole treats the Sheriff. He gives him a journal from Wakefield. He says J.D. is innocent and is trying to track the killer along with him. J.D. and his father were the only ones to visit Cole in the hospital after the burn. The two discuss a cpoycat and whoever read the journal knows how to copy Wakefield well. Cole says he’s gonna help the Sheriff so he doesn’t lose his leg. When Cole goes outside, he is hit with an arrow, pinning him against the wall. He drops his lantern which starts a fire. Another arrow hits him, killing him. The Sheriff struggles to get out and Abby and Jimmy find him. They leave to go to the Marine. Cole dies in the fire.

Sully, Beth, Chloe, and Cal go to the docks and are about to leave on a boat. Cal says if Madison is hurt he could never live with that. They all decide to stay. Cal sees J.D. running. Abby, Jimmy, and the Sheriff arrive at the docks. Sully tells them J.D. got out of jail. Jimmy goes and looks for him. Abby leaves her father in the car. She hears J.D. crying in pain. She finds him bleeding badly. When she asks who did this to him he says “It’s you Abby…it’s all about you” He dies and someones is standing behind Abby. She turns and sees Henry standing there with bloody hands and crying.

“Gurgle” is the eighth episode of the television series Harper’s Island, which aired on CBS on June 6, 2009. This is the start of the “Blackout period” which most fans have been talking about and waiting for.oo
