Harper’s Island “Gasp” Episode 12 Recap

July 12th, 2009 · No Comments

The episode opens to Wakefield, Abby and Henry, and Danny and Sully walking through the woods, each looking for the others Madison and Shea. At the car, Jimmy tells Trish that he has seen a ship and goes to signal it. Trish is hesitant to leave but goes anyway. Back in the woods, Wakefield comes behind Danny with the boarding knife but Sully shoots him. Hearing the shot, Abby and Henry come running. Abby takes her gun and prepares to kill him, but knocks him out with the butt of the gun instead.

After opening credits, Sully wants to kill Wakefield but Danny suggests tying him up for the police, which the group does with belts. Jimmy and Trish arrive at the bluffs but the ship is gone. The shot zooms to Trish coming closer to the edge of the cliffs.

At the police station, Henry puts Wakefield in the jail cell. He then wants to go get Jimmy and Trish and Abby says she’ll go find Shea and Madison. Sully and Danny suggest going door-to-door until they find a radio. Abby and Henry leave, and Danny and Sully stay. Danny remarks about still not feeling safe even though the killer is locked up. Sully gets a key from a cabinet and unlocks a locker, pulling something out. Danny thinks Sully is going to kill Wakefield, and tries to intervene. Sully tells Wakefield to step away from the bars twice, and then shoots him with the Taser he got from the locker.

Henry arrives at the car and finds Trish and Jimmy gone with the keys still in the ignition. He goes running to look for them. Abby arrives with Shea and Madison at the police station. Madison begins to talk to Sully, who is trying to fix the smashed radio. She says that they just need a new one, which angers him. Shea pulls her away.

Wakefield wakes up in the cell, and Madison sneaks away from a sleeping Shea to talk. Henry comes back and alerts everyone to Jimmy and Trish’s disappearance. Shea confesses that she found a file on Jimmy in the sheriff’s office containing an arrest record. Madison comes out of the holding room and tells Abby that Wakefield wants to talk to her.

Abby walks into the room and asks Wakefield where Jimmy and Trish are. She then asks why he kept killing after Sheriff Mills was dead. He informs her that he did because of her, asking about Sarah’s relationship to Charlie. Back in front, Sully runs down a list of why Jimmy is guilty and Shea offers a defense. Henry says he is the accomplice because of Abby leaving the island. Shea is skeptical. Abby says she knows she is not Wakefield’s child.

Jimmy arrives and tells the group that Trish has fallen off the bluffs. Henry takes Jimmy’s gun away and he asks what’s going on. Wakefield admits that he loved Sarah, which Abby denies. Wakefield says she killed her because she gave up his child, who he has found. He confirms it was a boy, eliminating Shea, Madison, Trish, and Abby as suspects. Because of the genetic improbability, it eliminates Danny too.

Henry starts a fight with Jimmy which Abby breaks up. Henry issues an ultimatum: if Trish wasn’t at the bluffs, Jimmy would die. At the cliff, the group calls out for Trish. Abby thinks she landed on a ledge, while Henry thinks she was pushed.

At the police station, Danny comes out with a little bit of food. Madison takes a Pop-Tart and begins to eat. Shea explains what will happen with Wakefield. At this point, Madison confirms that Wakefield has an accomplice after she reveals she got food while in the tunnels. Back at the bluffs, Henry and Sully point guns at Jimmy and Abby stands in the way and refuses to move, beginning to plead for Jimmy’s life. Trish calls from the top of the cliff.

She reveals that she lost her footing and fell into the water. She says she found a boathouse with a radio but she can’t reach anyone even though it has power. Jimmy goes to the distress channel and calls for help. After a few tries, there is only static. Abby confronts Henry about trying to kill Jimmy. Sully successfully reaches the Coast Guard but it fuzzy. Trish alerts them that John Wakefield has killed dozens of people including her father. The Coast Guard says they have bad weather and will be there in 4 hours at the most.

Henry hugs Ttrish and thanks her for saving all of them. Sully stays by the radio, Henry will take Trish to the Candlewick for dry clothes, and Abby and Jimmy go to the station. Trish takes a shower and decides to put on her wedding dress for Henry. Henry gets all of the survivors’ suitcases. Danny gets blankets for Shea and Madison and says he hasn’t slept in 3 days because he’s afraid to close his eyes. The shot cuts to the jail cell where Wakefield is untying the belts holding his hands. While walking with Abby, Jimmy explains his file from Seattle. He confesses that he wanted to break her heart but when she came back he only felt love.

Madison is playing cards with Danny and talking about Hansel and Gretel when she suddenly screams. Wakefield is behind Danny, having escaped from the cell, and begins to strangle him with a belt. Shea has a gun but can’t get a good shot. Danny begins to fight Wakefield and tells Shea and Madison to run. Wakefield takes Danny’s head and holds it inches above a memo holder, and then pushes his head into it, killing him. Wakefield throws Danny’s body off the desk.

Trish and Henry are lying on the couch when someone knocks on the door. He opens it but nobody is there. Henry goes out to find whoever knocked, leaving a nervous Trish at the bungalow. Jimmy spots Shea and Madison, who alerts them that Wakefield had escaped. Back at the Candlewick, the door is thrown open revealing Wakefield, who has come to kill Trish. She locks herself in the bedroom, breaks a window with a lamp, and runs outside, still in her wedding dress.

Jimmy and Abby arrive at the Candlewick and find a broken window with no one there. Trish runs down the path until she sees Henry, throwing herself into his arms. She says that Wakefield escaped and is right behind her. Henry calmly says he knows, and says he gave Wakefield the key. He says Sully was right about the accomplice but wrong about Jimmy. He reveals that he himself is Wakefiel’d accomplice, shocking Trish.

Trish falls down, starts to craw and cry, screaming that he is lying. Trish then begins to believe him and remarks that he had killed her father and J.D. She hits him but he draws her back into his arms. You hear a crunching noise from the knife, and you see Trish’s eyes go wider, and she begins to gasp. The camera pans down and reveals that Henry has stabbed her in the side. They slowly go down until Trish is dead. Henry looks up and sees Wakefield. He then says, “Hey, Dad.”

“Gasp” is the twelfth episode of the television series Harper’s Island, which was aired on CBS July 11, 2009. It was broadcast back-to-back with “Sigh” for the series finale. Henry is revealed to be the second killer and Wakefield’s child.
