Glee 10/14/09 “Throwdown” Episode Recap

October 16th, 2009 · No Comments

After Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) is named co-director of the Glee Club, she and Will (Matthew Morrison) go head to head. Sue splits the team in two, taking all the minority students and having them perform Jill Scott’s “Hate On Me”, leaving Will with only Finn (Cory Monteith), Rachel (Lea Michele) and Quinn (Dianna Agron) in his group. Will responds by failing all of Sue’s cheerleaders in Spanish, and picks “No Air” by Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown for his group to sing. Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba), no longer fearing Sue’s blackmail, admits Will is right. The students get together secretly to hang out, singing Nelly’s Ride Wit Me, but a fight between Sue and Will causes the students to walk out on them both.

Finn and Quinn attend a sonogram and learn that Quinn is expecting a girl. Finn suggests they name the baby Drizzle, but Quinn is adamant she is having it adopted. Will sets up an appointment with Terri’s (Jessalyn Gilsig) OB/GYN so he can see their baby on the ultrasound. With the help of her sister Kendra (Jennifer Aspen), Terri blackmails the doctor into faking the sonogram so she can continue to hide the fact she is not really pregnant, and also into saying that the baby is a girl, so she can take Quinn’s child.

School reporter Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman) uncovers news of Quinn’s pregnancy. To protect Finn, Rachel agrees to give him a pair of her panties to ensure he won’t release the story. Sue and Will make amends, with Sue stepping down as co-director. She reveals, however, that she made Jacob run the story about Quinn’s pregnancy and that the whole school will soon know. Quinn breaks down in tears in the hallway. The episode ends with the club performing “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne. As the song finishes it shows Quinn crying.

This is the first episode in which Emma (Jayma Mays) does not make an appearance.

“Throwdown” is the seventh episode of the television series Glee. The episode premiered on the Fox network on October 14, 2009. It was directed by series creator Ryan Murphy and written by Brad Falchuk.
