American Dad 11/22/09 “My Morning Straitjacket” Episode Recap

November 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Stan gets angry when Hayley isn’t at the dinner table, and after finding out that she has gone to a rock concert, which he considers to be a bad influence, becomes even more enraged (anger supposedly being the only emotion that he can express). Stan decides to scare Hayley straight when she comes from the concert. Hayley, instead successfully defends herself against Stan, and says that she’s going to see My Morning Jacket when they play again the next night. Stan ends up eating Hayley’s ticket. Hayley is upset, but Francine surprises her with the ticket, after having retrived it out of Stan’s body by drugging him and pulling the ticket out with tongs.

While Hayley is at the concert, Francine has Roger dress up as her so that Stan won’t notice anything, but the jig is up after Roger tells Stan to screw himself, which causes Francine to snap at Roger, yelling out his name. Stan then races to the concert, putting on noise-cancellation ear plugs to filter out the music. He attempts to drag Hayley out but one of the attendees attempt to stop him. He pulls out his ear plugs to express his duty as her father, only to become instantaneously entranced by the music, which causes Stan to finally feel emotions.

Stan then becomes so obsessed with My Morning Jacket, that he has a room in the house changed to the ‘MMJ Hangtime Room’. After Hayley, recommends another band to Stan, Stan becomes furious with Hayley, calling her a ‘music slut’ and ‘unfit to listen to the music of Jim’.

Stan then listens to My Morning Jacket so much, that he becomes neglectful of his work, and doesn’t pay attention when Francine falls down the stairs, or when he is called on to defend the family against a burglar, resulting in Steve being stabbed. Hayley then gets trapped in the pool, only to be let out when the pool cleaner guy shows up. Stan then accidentally eats Klaus in a sandwich, whom Francine managed to save after drugging Stan again. A guy named Norman (voiced by Zack Galifianakis) comes to the house with a bootleg CD of Jim James in the bathroom at a Doubletree Hotel before a show in Detroit, Michigan, for which Stan pays $900.

Eventually, he decides to try meet Jim James, believing that they are soul mates and that he is writing the songs specifically for him. Disguised as a reporter for Rolling Stone, Stan decides that he has to follow My Morning Jacket on tour, accompanied by Roger (who is disguised as a groupie), despite the fact that he would be fired from the CIA if he doesn’t show up for work on Monday.

Roger’s sweet talking manages to get him backstage at a show and then finally onto the tour bus, but when Stan tells a bogus story about freebasing cocaine with ‘Tina Jivestrong’ & ‘the black guy from The Beatles’, they get thrown off the bus. Roger then steals a car to get them to the next concert in Albany, New York. However, Stan doesn’t get to through the backstage entrance after Roger abandons him, feigning that his plan backfired.

Francine then turns up, also dressed as a groupie. Deciding to finally help Stan and end his ridiculous quest, she beings flirting and flashing her way through security, and ends up making out with a female security guard. Stan then finally meets Jim James, who after at first being freaked out by Stan, points out the flaws in his logic and tells him that he couldn’t possibly be writing his songs just for him, seeing as how they never knew each other, and that Francine is really the one who truly understands him. Afterwards, Francine & Stan then proceed to have a threesome with the female security guard in Jim James’s dressing room.
