The story begins with a dream sequence with fellw orthodontist Dr. Farkas and Betty Suarez. Suddenly, it stops when Betty tells Dr. Farkas to stop using a noisy tool. Dr. Farkas suddenly asks Betty whether she is “boyfriend-free” and Betty tells him that she has a boyfriend. Betty asks when her braces will get off but Dr. Farkas, being disappointed, tells her to get another orthodontist and abruptly leaves.

The next morning, Betty is seen sleeping with Matt at his apartment and then a musical sequence starts when the alarm sounds at 7. Betty and Matt wake up, brush their teeth, head off to work and kiss their daily goodbyes. This sequence of events happens repeatedly for the next few days until one day Betty’s head is hit by the elevator doors while Matt is attempting to kiss her downright. This repetition of events has Betty concerned that they are spending too much time together. Bett heads to visit Justin and Hilda and discuss about Matt’s “problem”. Apparently, Matt has sent Betty flowers and a voice-mailed letter saying “Missed you much”. Betty then asks Hilda about her pregnancy issue with Bobby and Hilda says that she is not sure when she will tell Bobby that he is father.

Meanwhile in Wilhemina’s apartment, Daniel, Marc and Wilhemina discuss about replacing Denise Ludwig (Willie’s current replacement). Willie tells Daniel that they need a person to tell the media about this and Daniel agrees to be that man to do it.

Back at Mode, Matt shows up before Betty and tells he rthat he has 2 exclusive tickets to a hockey game that day. Betty refuses as she has a late photoshoot and this upsets Matt.

At the Suarezes, Bobby arrives with Justin and Hilda tells him to have a friendly talk in a coffeeshop. Bobby agrees and leaves.

Daniel and Marc begin Operation “Get Rid Of Denise” but is delayed when Marc’s flame, Troy appears. Then, Daniel asks Denise to have an interview with Suzuki St. Pierre and she agrees. During the interview, Denise talks around the question given by Suzuki and the interview enters a break. Off-camera, Denise tells Daniel fashion is a just a waste of time and Marc presses the “On” button of the crew’s camera and successfully records it. Later, Suzuki tells on Fashion TV about Denise’s secret interview with Daniel and this upsets Claire and Cal Hartley. Wilhemina arrives suddenly and tells Claire and Cal that the best replacement for Denise is herself. Claire and Cal disagree and leae. Claire becomes angry with Daniel for teaming up with Willie. Daniel and Willie then discuss about having Claire join their team in order to get rid of Denise and Cal as it is the only way.

Bobby shows up before Hilda with a surprise Plasma HD TV and this shocks her. She initially refuses, saying that it is “too much” but Bobby insists for Justin to use it to watch certain programmes and Hilda accepts.

Meanwhile, Betty heads off to an art gallery under refurbishment and talks to its curator, Frances, about having Matt’s paintings in it in order to let Matt get his old hobby of painting back since being back with Betty. Frances then sees all of Matt’s other paintings but refuses to showcase them, saying that there is not enough “energy” in them. Suddenly, Matt appears and Betty tries to divert him to lunch to continue her meeting with Frances. Eventually, Frances finds some artworks great enough to showcase and agrees with Betty.

Wilhemina and Marc discuss about how to get Claire on their team but Marc has to leave since Daniel is calling him. Willie then overhears Amanda talking about Caire’s visit to South Dakota (to meet her long-lost son) and this possibly develops a scheme for Claire.

Ignacio is watching Bobby’s TV (not knowing that Bobby bought it) and Hilda arrives and tells him that it was from Bobby. Ignacio then tells her to return the TV, saying that it was stolen because Bobby’s family were thugs. Hilda argues with him but Ignacio orders to do so, leaving her upset when he talks about Archie.

At MODE, Amanda finds a high heel, a dress, fur hat and a scarf which happens to be stuck onto a door. She pulls and she falls through into the emergency staircases. She looks up and sees Wilhemina looking down at her. Willie asks her why Claire went to South Dakota but Amanda refuses since she kept it a secret with Claire. Willie tarts bribing her with expensive accesories and tells her that she can become more than a receptionist by makin her dreams come true. Amanda canno take it anymore and supposedly agrees. Meanwhile, Daniel is trying to persuade Claire to join him and Willie but she refuses.

Troy suddenly shows up when overhears Marc talking about Matt’s artwork showcasing with Amanda. Troy then tells Marc that he really loves him and kisses him to Marc’s and Amanda’s horror. When Troy leaves, Marc tells Amanda that he has to dump him but Amanda thinks otherwise.

Meanwhile, Betty and Matt are walking together when they happen to come across the art gallery showcasing his paintings. Matt insists to go home but Betty goes in with him and sees many people present at the opening. Betty and Matt are shocked to see his paintings and that a common theme is Betty in a horrifying way (e.g.: Betty with Medusa-like snakehair, Betty having broken teeth, Betty holding a human heart with her bare hands and Betty’s head turned into a skull). The people present were Bobby, Hilda, Ignacio, Marc, Amanda, Frances and other people.

Amanda is seen wearing Willie’s bribed clothes which means that she told Willie about Claire’s son. At MODE, Claire prepares to leave for Matt’s paintings gallery but Cal stops her by showing her a file. She opens it and sees her son’s documents in it. Cal gets angry that Claire did not tell him about their son, calls Tyler a “bastard”, reasoning with her that it is all for business and leaves. Claire starts weeping but Daniel arrives and apologizes for his previous behavior. Claire hugs him and they reconcile.

Back at the gallery, Matt is furious that Betty publicized his personal paintings. He leaves, saying that Betty is not passionate enough for him. Meanwhile, Hilda sees Bobby exchanging money with a policeman and confronts him, but Bobby tells Hilda he owes the cop money because Bobby lost in a poker game to the guy. Midway through their argument, Hilda accidentally mentions about their baby. Ignacio, in shock, drops his wine glass and Bobby leaves.

The next morning, Betty and Hilda exchange words about their relationship, and when Betty brings up the subject of her not being passionate enough, Hilda admitted to Betty that she read her diary and says that Betty draws her passion from that from what she writes down. Bobby arrives to see Hilda and they reconcile too. Marc is about to dump Troy but Troy cuts him off and tells him his true feelings about their relationship. Marc then thwarts his plan to ditch him and Troy leaves. Similarly enough, Claire is about to fire Cal but Cal cuts her off and apologizes. However, Claire still remained unconvinced, threatened to tell Tyler about him, and plans to make sure that he gets a portion of Cal’s empire due to being his father, and fires him. Betty shows Matt her diary which talks about how Matt tortured Betty earlier on. Matt apologizes and says that in order to keep balanced with their relationship, Matt decides to quit MODE and asks her out for dinner.

Wilhemina arrives at MODE and thanks Daniel and Claire for their help. Claire then confronts Willie about Tyler’s documents but Willie insists that she did not do it. She leaves after Claire orders her not to tell Daniel about South Dakota. Claire, still unconvinced, looks on as Willie walks deeper into her company and smiles.

“The Passion of The Betty” is an episode from the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty, which aired on January 6, 2010. It is the tenth episode from Season 4 and the 75th episode overall.
