Walternate is called and told that “he” is at the hospital. William Bell and Olivia rescue Walter from the hospital. Walternate lies and tells Peter that the machine (which will destroy our universe) can be used to heal the other world. Peter offers to fix it since it doesn’t seem to work. Alter-Olivia and Alter-Charlie are unable to capture Walter, But Alter-Olivia sees a surveilance shot of Olivia and Walter and goes to confront Walternate. Peter meets Alter-Olivia who drives him to his new apartment.

Walter and Bell go to Harvard to collect equiptment needed to return home and Walter reveals his intense dislike for Bell, considering him a selfish war profiteer while Walter was locked away for 17 years and is still broken inside. Bell reveals the Alternate Universe equivilant of himself died in a car accident as a young man. Olivia confronts Alter-Olivia who recognizes that Olivia has feelings for Peter. After a fight Olivia knocks Alter-Olivia unconcious, dies her hair to match hers, and steals her clothes. Peter discovers the machine is symbiotic and needs a particular human to control it: him.

Olivia and an oblivious Alter-Charlie go to collect Peter to move him for his own safety. Olivia knocks out Charlie and reveals herself to Peter. She reveals the truth about the device and Walternate’s plan to Peter. Peter states he doesn’t belong in the other world or Olivia’s world. Olivia tells him “You belong with me” and kisses him, revealing her feelings. They race to meet up with Walter and Bell at the Opera House. Alter-Olivia and a team of Fringe Commandos catch up with them there. Bell and Olivia hold off the assualt while Peter and Walter set up the device to return home. In an explosion Bell is knocked unconcious and awakens to find Olivia standing over him. She and Bell join Walter and Peter inside. Bell uses himself (unstable due to constant travel through the universes and his atoms can be ripped apart on a whim) to fuel the machine with a nuclear reaction, dying in the process. Before dying he reveals that he took Walter’s memories away at Walter’s own request. Walter tells him he was wrong about him and forgives him.

Olivia, Walter, and Peter step through and Olivia looks around in wonder. Astrid welcomes Peter back at the lab. Peter tells Walter he’ll never understand him, but Walter traveled into another universe twice to save him, which counts for something, Peter forgives him. Olivia goes to the typewriter communication station to await orders and is revealed to be Alter-Olivia infiltrating our side. The Olivia from our world is seen in a military detention center on the other side. Walternate visits her, cruelly stares at her without speaking then leaves her in the dark isolation of solitary confinement.

“Over There: Part 2″ is the 23rd episode of the second season of the series Fringe and the show’s 43rd episode overall. It aired on May 20, 2010 on FOX. It was written by J.H. Wyman, Jeff Pinkner & Akiva Goldsman, and directed by Akiva Goldsman.
