With her wedding on the horizon, Cate (Shiri Appleby) decides to take a road trip with Lux (Britt Robertson) to find her father, Gordon (guest star Peter Horton), who abandoned her when she was a little girl. Meanwhile, when Bug’s (guest star Rafi Gavron) “friends” trash Baze’s (Kristoffer Polaha) bar, Lux invites Baze to join her and Cate on the road trip, allowing Bug some time to repair the bar before Baze discovers the truth. Kerr Smith and Austin Basis also star. Liz Allen directed the episode written by Adele Lim. (#111).

LUX IS CONFUSED BY HER FEELINGS FOR JONES — Lux (Britt Robertson) is forced to face her complicated feelings for Jones (guest star Austin Butler) when she sees him kissing another girl at a party. When a storm hits Portland, Ryan (Kerr Smith) and Lux find themselves stranded at the radio station, and Ryan learns more than he ever knew about what Lux went through as a child. Cate (Shiri Appleby) goes to Baze’s (Kristoffer Polaha) bar looking for Lux, but the storm traps her there with Baze, Math (Austin Basis), Jamie (guest star Reggie Austin) and her sister, Abby (guest star Alex Breckenridge).

Kerr Smith from Life Unexpected tells Madison Michele about his aversion to feet and why the creator of the show has turned his character into a foot fetishist. He plays Ryan, the stepdad to Lux, but recognizes that the biological dad is Baze. They talk about the trend of the kids being more mature then their children. This is Kerr’s first ‘dad’ role after playing a teenager on Dawson’s Creek. He talks about how Life Unexpected is like the old-school WB show Dawson’s Creek and that there’s more highly emotional material to come.

Life Unexpected Season 1 Episode 10: “Family Therapized”

LUX, CATE AND RYAN GET IN TROUBLE WITH THEIR SOCIAL WORKER — After Lux (Britt Robertson) and Bug (guest star Rafi Gavron) are picked up by the police for a curfew violation, Lux’s social worker decides it’s time to meet with Cate (Shiri Appleby) and Baze (Kristoffer Polaha) to reevaluate their custody of Lux. During a meeting with the social worker, Cate, Baze and Lux agree to put on a happy face to ensure that Lux isn’t placed back in the foster care system.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to show Lux that she supports her, Cate offers to find Bug a job at her radio station, but winds up disappointing Lux once again.

Austin Basis also stars. Michael Katleman directed the episode written by Deidre Shaw. (#109).
