SOME ENCHANTED EVENING

“Dangerous Liaisons” – Elena (Nina Dobrev) is surprised to receive an invitation to a formal ball, and when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) hear the party is being hosted at Klaus’s newly renovated mansion, they both insist on attending the event with her. Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) also receive invitations to the ball from unexpected admirers. At the elegant party, Elena learns of a horrifying plan that could lead to numerous deaths and she must decide who she can trust wither her new information. Caroline discovers a side of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) no one would have suspected. Finally, after an evening of violence and dashed hopes, Damon finds a new way to cope. A FAMILY DINNER

“Bringing Out the Dead” – Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) delivers some disturbing news to Alaric (Matt Davis) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) about the weapon used in a recent murder. In the Salvatore brothers’ escalating quest to kill Klaus (Jospeh Morgan), Stefan (Paul Wesley) turns to Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Abby (guest star Persia White), while Damon (Ian Somerhalder) reaches out to an old acquaintance for help in setting up an elaborate plan. Intent on a plan of his own, Klaus hosts a strange dinner party, where he reveals another story from his family’s violent past until an unexpected guest brings the party to an end. PERSIA WHITE GUEST STARS AS BONNIE’S MOTHER

“The Ties That Bind” – Bonnie (Kat Graham) believes her recurring dreams about Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) coffins will tell her how he can be killed. The dreams also lead Bonnie to a reunion with her mother, Abby (guest star Persia White, “Girlfriends”), whom Bonnie hasn’t seen for 15 years. At Abby’s remote farmhouse, Bonnie and Elena (Nina Dobrev) meet Jamie (guest star Robert Ri’chard, “One on One”), the young man Abby took in years earlier. Bonnie’s sudden appearance catches Abby off-guard, but she does her best to explain the past. Tyler (Michael Trevino) turns to an unexpected ally in his quest to regain his free will. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is intrigued by Alaric’s (Matt Davis) new friend, Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto), and Klaus continues his bitter negotiations with Stefan (Paul Wesley) over control of the coffins containing his family members. BIRTHDAYS AND GOOD-BYES

“Our Town” – Although Caroline (Candice Accola) is in no mood to celebrate her 18th birthday, Elena (Nina Dobrev), Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Matt (Zach Roerig) surprise her with a small party in an unusual location. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) disagree on the best way to handle Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and a reckless Stefan decides to test his theory by taking things to dangerous extremes. Bonnie is concerned when Elena tells her about Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) new plans. At a Founder’s meeting, Alaric once again runs into Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto), who is in the middle of an argument with her ex-boyfriend, the medical examiner (guest star David Colin Smith). Tyler (Michael Trevino) refuses to go along with Klaus’ latest demand, and is surprised when Klaus seems to accept his decision. Watch sneak peeks from tonight’s episode:

Klaus wants Elena and Damon to find Stefan in order to get his coffins back but when they refuse, he gets a hybrid to run over Jeremy who has been off vervain due to Tyler’s influence and has been compelled by Klaus. Alaric pushes Jeremy out of the way and gets run over. His ring brings him back to life but doesn’t heal him; he needs vampire blood to heal him. Alaric meets Dr. Meredith Fell (Torrey DeVitto), who is intrigued with his amazing ability to heal.

Stefan reveals to Damon that he stopped the plan to kill Klaus to save Damon’s life. Stefan then reveals his plan to torment Klaus in revenge for what Klaus turned him into and refuses to return the coffins, despite Klaus’ attempts to kill Jeremy. Elena makes a deal with Klaus to spare Jeremy’s life in return for Rebekah’s daggered body.

When Elena reveals to Klaus that Rebekah wants him dead because he killed their mother, Klaus keeps the dagger in her. Elena asks Damon to compel Jeremy to leave Mystic Falls and move away with family friends so he can have a normal life away from the supernatural. Elena thanks Damon for everything and Damon admits that because Stefan saved him, he can’t not feel guilty for wanting what he wants (Elena, his brother’s girl).

He then says that if he’s going to feel guilty, ‘he’ll feel guilty about this’ – and he kisses Elena.

A REASON TO FEEL GUILTY — Stefan (Paul Wesley) has hidden the coffins containing the bodies of Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) family, and Klaus quickly turns to violence to convince Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) that no one will be safe until he finds Stefan and gets his family back. Tyler (Michael Trevino) continues to make the most of his new abilities as a hybrid, but he has to face the disturbing consequences of his actions as well.

After a terrifying incident, Elena and Alaric (Matt Davis) grow increasingly concerned about Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) attitude and, ultimately, his safety. Alaric meets the beautiful Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto, “Pretty Little Liars”), who is intrigued with his amazing ability to heal. While trying to strike a deal with Klaus, Elena delivers news that truly shocks him. Kat Graham also stars and internet personality Justine Ezarik guest stars as a bartender. John Behring directed the episode written by Michael Narducci (#310).

ROCK BAND MY MORNING JACKET PERFORMS

“Homecoming” – On the night of the Homecoming dance, Rebekah (guest star Claire Holt) opens up to Elena (Nina Dobrev) about why the evening is so important to her, leaving Elena with conflicting emotions. Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) are both shocked at Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) behavior throughout the evening. The night takes a surreal turn when Klaus (Joseph Morgan) puts his latest plan into action. Determined to outsmart Klaus, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) enters into a dangerous partnership, leading to a terrifying turn of events. The band My Morning Jacket performs in the party scenes. Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Rebekah (guest star Claire Holt) engage in a mean-girl power struggle, until Rebekah finally reveals some of her family’s ancient secrets and the violent past she shares with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies). Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries a reckless new approach to make a breakthrough with Stefan (Paul Wesley), and they’re both surprised by an unlikely ally. Watch sneak peeks from tonight’s episode:

NIGHT OF ILLUMINATION

“Ghost World” – As Mystic Falls prepares to celebrate the traditional Illumination Night, the town is invaded by spirits of the dead. After a particularly violent encounter with an angry spirit, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) asks Bonnie (Kat Graham) to find the reason behind the ghosts’ surprising power. Elena (Nina Dobrev) convinces Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) to use his connection to the other side to help her find a new way to reach Stefan (Paul Wesley), leading Jeremy to a terrible choice. Finally, Alaric (Matt Davis) discovers a long-hidden clue to the past. See video sneak peeks from tonight’s episode:

It’s the first day of school and Elena is having a hard time since it is her one year anniversary with Stefan. Bonnie and Jeremy are having issues since Jeremy keeps seeing Anna. Klaus’ sister, Rebecca, has been left behind along with Stefan, and decides to move in with the Salvatores. She joins Stefan and the others at school, and shows an eagerness to replace Caroline’s place in the school.

Matt continues to see the ghost of Vicky, and she convinces him to perform a ritual that allows her to come and go from his world as she pleases. She says a witch from the other side promised her that if she killed Elena she can come back, forever. The gang attends a back to school bonfire, and Damon goes to keep his eye on Rebecca. There, Elena stabs Stefan and Rebecca stabs Damon.

Tyler feels that he is beholden to Klaus since Klaus essentially made him who he is today. Elena then saves Stefan from a fire after Vicki tries to kill Elena in Alaric’s van. Vicki is eventually restored back to the other side by Bonnie while Damon goes back home. He hears a vase break, and, thinking it was Stefan, doesn’t worry. He is pushed back by a powerful force, and as he falls Mason Lockwood appears in front of him.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” is the sixth episode of season 3 of The Vampire Diaries and the 50th episode overall. It first broadcast October 20, 2011 on The CW Network.
